Vat Savitri puja - Required Items (Puja Samagri):
- Image or twig of a Banyan tree (Vat Vriksha)
- Kalash (copper pot filled with water)
- Yellow sacred thread (raw cotton thread or moli)
- Seven types of grains (Saptadhanya)
- Fruits, sweets, dry fruits (panchmeva)
- Turmeric, vermilion (kumkum), sandalwood paste
- Betel leaves and betel nuts

1. Morning Preparation & Sankalp (Vow)
After taking a bath and wearing clean traditional attire (usually red or yellow), sit on the mat and take a vow (sankalp) for observing the fast with full devotion.

मम सुख-सौभाग्य पुत्र-पौत्रादि वृद्धिार्थं चिरंजीवितार्थं
धर्मार्थ काम मोक्ष चतुर्वर्ग फल प्राप्त्यर्थं सावित्र्याः व्रतमहं करिष्ये।
Transliteration:
Mama sukha-saubhāgya-putra-pautrādi-vṛddhyarthaṁ, chiranjīvitārthaṁ,
dharmārtha-kāmamokṣa-caturvarga-phala-prāptyarthaṁ, Sāvitryāḥ vratam ahaṁ kariṣye.
Meaning:
I undertake this fast for the growth of my happiness, prosperity, children and grandchildren, for the long life of my husband, and to attain the four goals of life — Dharma (duty), Artha (wealth), Kama (desire), and Moksha (liberation).
2. Vat Savitri Vrat - Setting Up the Puja Altar
If you do not have access to a real banyan tree:
- Place its image or a twig on a chowki covered with a red or yellow cloth.
- Place the kalash near it and decorate it with mango leaves and coconut.
- Prepare a small mound of turmeric-mixed soil and sow the seven grains on it.

4. Vat Savitri Vrat Circumambulation (Parikrama)
